Graduate Program Admission

All instructions for applying to graduate school, along with links to the University’s admission requirements, tuition and fees, residency requirements (domestic students only), and ways to finance your education can be found on the Graduate School’s website.

Note: If you are an international student, it is very important that you complete the application using exactly the same name as written on your passport. If you use a different name, other than the complete name, in the same order, as listed on your passport, it may cause a delay in the processing of your application.

In addition to what is required by the Graduate School, the School of Mechanical and Materials Engineering requires additional materials, which are listed below. These materials can be submitted during the application process, or sent via email to mme.gp@wsu.edu. It is the student’s responsibility to make sure all application material has been received, and we reserve the right to deny an application because it is not complete.

1. Statement of purpose – This statement should be limited to no more than 500 words, and should only include your research interests, what research you want to work on while here (if known), and your long-term goals.
2. Student Interest Profile – Download and complete the Student Interest Profile (PDF).
3. GRE scores (general test) – GRE scores are optional for all MME degrees and programs. Students who have completed the GRE and would like to have the scores submitted to WSU as additional material for the application evaluation process should send the scores to university code 4705.
4. TOEFL or IELTS scores (international students only) – MME requires the same minimum TOEFL or IELTS scores as the University. English proficiency requirements can be found on the Graduate School website. It is recommended that students send an electronic copy or a hard copy of the scores to MME to be used as an unofficial copy until the official copy arrives from the Educational Testing Service (ETS).

Instructions for sending transcripts can be found on the Graduate School website. If your references want to send a hard copy of their reference letter rather than using the online form, they are allowed to do that. The letters should be sent to the Graduate School office using the address listed on the above website.
