Scholarly Assistant Professor – Everett Campus

The School of Mechanical and Materials Engineering at Washington State University invites applications for a faculty position at the rank of Scholarly Assistant Professor for the Mechanical Engineering Program at Everett, WA. This is a full-time, non-tenure-track position, with an academic year (nine-month) appointment.

The incumbent will join approximately 40 instructional faculty members in the School of MME, which has 900 undergraduate students, 120 Ph.D. students and 50 M.S. students in Pullman, Everett and Bremerton. WSU-Everett is housed in a recently built 95,000 square foot building costing $64 million, next to the Everett Community College, and enrolls transfer students who obtain the BSME degree. It is expected that the successful candidate will teach up to three Mechanical Engineering (ME) courses per semester at the WSU ME program at Everett, some of which may also be remotely delivered to ME programs in Bremerton and Pullman.

The candidate will also provide service in support of departmental activities. Service duties may include coordinating and maintaining instructional laboratory equipment, mentoring undergraduate students, advising student clubs, linking with local K-12 schools for student recruitment interacting with local industry and soliciting industry-supported design projects, serving on internal committees with Pullman faculty, as well as other duties assigned by the School Director.



An earned doctoral degree in Mechanical Engineering, or a closely related engineering field, is required prior to the start of the appointment. Successful candidates must demonstrate potential for and commitment to the teaching of a wide variety of undergraduate mechanical engineering courses in the field of Thermal and Fluid systems, Mechanical System Design, Control and Mechatronics, and associated laboratory courses. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills are a prerequisite. Commitment to enhancing the diversity of the School’s faculty and students is expected.


Experience in classroom teaching and familiarity with the operation of University-based Engineering Programs is desirable.
